Buds and Bras

Most days of the year, candy and flowers line the windows of the florist shop at The Bud Connection in Ellsworth. But this month, it’s bras. Lauren Morrison tells us why.Bras are usually only thought of as having one use.But a businesswoman in Ellsworth has found a creative way to use them to bring awareness to cancer.Barbara Courchesne created the Buds and Bras Fundraiser and is asking community members to decorate bras for the cause.”Well I would really like to see some crazy bras brought in, a lot of fun. we’ve had a few brought in. One has plants growing out of it. We have a stained glass bra.” There’s a five dollar fee to enter your decorated bra and the deadline for entering is October twenty fifth. The public will then vote for their favorite bra, with each vote costing a dollar. The winner will be announced November first and will receive a one hundred dollar gift certificate from The Bud Connection.Although this fundraiser may seemed geared toward breast cancer, the money raised will benefit all cancer patients. All proceeds will go to the Beth C. Wright Center in Ellsworth.”Picking the Beth C. Wright Center, we picked not just breast cancer because they serve patients with all kinds of cancer.” For more information, or to drop off your decorated bra, you can visit The Bud Connection at 89 Main Street in Ellsworth.
