(AP) – Beer, cash and bragging rights are on theline for the 11th annual North American Wife Carrying Championshipsheld in Maine. For Saturday’s race at the Sunday River ski resort in Newry,couples will navigate a 278-yard course that includes log hurdlesand a long pit of waist-deep water. Racing teams must be comprised of a man and woman, who don’thave to be married. A field of 46 couples entered the race lastyear. The winning team gets the woman’s weight in beer and five timesher weight in cash. The race is part of Sunday River’s annual Fall Festival Weekend.
