Fire at Wastewater Treatment Plant

Fire crews from Brewer and Holden spent a good deal of the night Friday battling a blaze at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Brewer.According to Captain Brent Melvin with the Brewer Fire Department, a neighbor on South Main Street in Brewer called in the fire. When crews arrived, smoke and flames were coming from the roof of the building. “The roof is being repaired. Unfortunately the area where the raw material was sitting, where the fire was, is damaged. The roof is at the point where now we’re getting a bunch of water pouring in from them up there fighting the fire, so we have some office areas that could receive slight damage from the water,” said Kenneth Locke, Director of Environmental Services in Brewer.Locke says the fire should not change the day to day operations of the facility. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
