Boy Scouts of America Camporee

The Boy Scouts of America, Katahdin Area Council, is holding its Centennial Celebration.Nearly 1,000 scouts are camping out in Bass Park in Bangor this weekend for the event. Many events are taking place including demonstrations from the Forest Service, Warden Service, Maine State Police and the Army National Guard.Organizers say it’s a great event for everyone involved. “Our goal is to instill values in these boys, young men because they’re tomorrows leaders and if you look at our leaders today most people have been scouts at one point or another in their life. Hopefully this is a kickoff for the next 100 years and we’ll be as successful if not more going forward,” said Chuck Major, Field Director for the Katahdin Area Council.Camporee events wrap up on Sunday.Next weekend the Distinguished Citizen Dinner will be held at the Bangor Auditorium. This year, the event is honoring the Boy Scouts of America.
