Maine DOE to Delay Collecting Social Security Numbers 

The Maine Department of Education is delaying its collection of student social security numbers after a security problem with its database.The problem allowed a school technology director to see restricted information.State officials say they immediately found the issue and corrected it, restricting staff members’ social security information.The problem occurred as Maine school districts have been collecting students’ social security numbers to help the state track student achievement through school, college and the workplace.
