Lapoint Found Not Guilty

A jury has cleared a man from Bucksport of beating another man from Sedgewick in a gravel pit more than five years ago. 27-year-old Jason Lapoint was found not guilty of aggravated assault and assault this afternoon in Ellsworth. Assistant District Attorney Mary Kellet, says 21-year-old Thomas Powell – who was 16 at the time – was at a pit party in 2005 when he says Lapoint showed up and threatened him. Powell argued Lapoint knocked him down and hit him repeatedly with a club or a pipe, then took off. A friend took Powell to the hospital where he was treated for a head wound.Lapoint says he was never at the gravel pit with Powell.
