Republican candidate for Governor Paul LePage is calling on a national name to campaign for him, too. Tomorrow Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour is scheduled to attend a private fundraiser in Portland in support of LePage. Barbour is also the chairman of the Republican Governors’ Association and is frequently mentioned as a contended for the White House in 2012.Today, LePage was in Brooksville meeting with local fisherman. LePage says the fishing industry is tied up in red tape. He’d like to appoint an expert to review the state’s fishing regulations to see if they can be amended or even tossed out. As for his lead in the polls, LePage says he’s happy with the progress his campaign is making.”We feel good. We feel our message is resonating. I’m not big on polls. If I’d followed polls and believed the polls back in the primary, it’d be sitting home watching a football game right now.”About 50 people attended today’s forum. Other Republican candidates also stopped by, including Jason Levesque. He’s running for the 2nd congressional district seat, currently held by Mike Michaud.
