Candidates for Governor Weigh In on Gay Rights, Gambling

The issue of gay marriage is a divisive one among the five candidates for governor. In a survey by the Associated Press, Democrat Libby Mitchell and Independent Eliot Cutler say they support recognizing same-sex marriages.Independent Shawn Moody said he wouldn’t sign a gay marriage law unless voters approved it and Republican Paul LePage says voters already have spoken against it.Independent Kevin Scott said he would work with all sides.When it comes to casino gambling in Maine, Mitchell, Cutler and Moody say they oppose it. LePage would support voters’ decision if they endorse casino gambling. And Scott says he’d work with the Legislature to create a law in the best interest of the state.
