Ladies Auxiliary for the VFW Visit Jackson Lab 

Officials at the Jackson Lab in Bar Harbor got the chance to meet some of their biggest supporters Thursday and show them around the facility. Cortina Barnes is the National President of the the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, an organization that has donated more than $1 million over the past 60 years. “We are dedicated to serving and supporting our veterans and their families but also the active duty military and their families and promoting patriotism,” says Barnes as she describes the mission of the LAVFW.In addition to supporting veterans, the organization also raises money for other causes, one of the biggest being cancer research. The women toured the facility and got a first hand look at how their contributions have been used. Mike Hyde is the Vice President for Advancement at Jackson Labs. “They’re among our longest, best, and oldest friends and it’s always a thrill to have them back.”After the tour, the women kept the tradition of giving alive, presenting Jackson Lab officials with a donation of $25,000. “We really believe in the research that’s being by organizations like Jackson Lab and we are proud to be a supporter of them.”
