Many inmates in jail suffer from substance abuse problems. Which in turn will often times land them back behind bars. A new program, however, is hoping to change that.On Wednesday, nine people graduated from Kennebec County’s Criminogenic Addiction Recovery Academy in Augusta. The six week long program is the first of its kind in Maine. The program helps counsel and change inmates behaviors who are facing addiction problems.Five agencies have collaborated to create the academy, including the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, Office of Substance Abuse and Crisis and Counseling Centers, Inc.
