Structure Fire Shuts Down Route 69 in Carmel 

Route 69 in Carmel was shut down for hours as crews mopped up a structure fire.The fire broke out at a three unit apartment building on Hampden Road.There was only one person home at the time of the fire, she told us she heard the fire alarms go off and when she opened the door she saw smoke.That’s when she called 911.Four dogs and one cats were retrieved from the building, but there is still one dog unaccounted for. One cat did not make it.The Fire Chief says it appears the fire started in the back of the home.Carmel, Hermon, Levant, Etna and Newburg Fire Departments responded to the fire.The State Fire Marshal is investigating.
