Enfield Man Sentenced for Animal Cruelty 

A man from Enfield has been sentenced to two weeks in jail after pleading guilty to animal cruelty charges.Officials with the Maine Animal Welfare Program say Jonathan Peare kept 25 dogs in horrible living conditions. The conditions were so bad, 14 of the dogs had to be put down.When the case was first investigated, eight of the dogs were found dead.In addition to the jail sentence, Peare was fined $500 and is banned for life from owning more than one dog.In exchange for Peare’s guilty plea, the judge dropped 7 of the 8 charges of animal cruelty against him.
