Camden Top Ten In New England For Foliage

If you’re looking for the best place to get a look at the fall foliage in New England, you won’t have to travel far. With fall right around the corner, Yankee magazine has released its top 25 best spots in New England to check out the fall foliage. Coming in at #6: Camden. The top 10 selection has residents beaming. “oh, it’s very impressive. we’re very proud,” says Rockport resident Marie Novotny. Dan Bookham is the Executive Director at the Camden, Rockport, Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce. “We were very pleasantly surprised,” he says. “It’s one of those things, anyone who has been here or lives here understands the beauty of this place year round especially during the Autumn.”Maria Novotny says the view from atop Camden’s Mount Battie is one of her favorite things about the fall season. “Oh it’s exquisite,” she says. “It’s indescribable. It’s everywhere, it’s so beautiful. There’s so many different colors of all the trees. It’s just truly unique.”Polly Hall just moved here from Utah and has already fallen in love with this spot and she hasn’t even been here for the fall season yet. “Oh it’s beautiful! The only way this could be any better is if it were a clearer day.”This region is no stranger to accolades. In 2009, Boston magazine named Camden’s Main Street the best Main Street in New England. Downeast magazine awarded Camden harbor its top spot, voting it the #1 most beautiful harbor in New England.Now, folks around here are hoping Yankee magazine bumps them up into the top 5 next year. “There are very few places in the country, never mind New England, where you can see such an amazing variety of color and see the ocean at the same time,” says Bookham. “And see these wonderfully quaint authentic small towns all the way from Port Clyde to Belfast all the towns in the region help make this the #1 foliage destination.”
