Military Operation New Dawn has been in effect for nearly two weeks now.Since the President declared the end of combat two soldiers have died.The military says a gunman wearing an Iraqi army uniform opened fire on troops last week. Nine other US troops were wounded. Meanwhile, there are about three-hundred fifty men and women of the Maine National Guard deployed in Afghanistan.According to Major General Bill Libby, the 1136th Transportation Company and the 86th Brigade Combat Team will likely be home in a few months. The 86th brigade, which is out of Brewer is expected to finish their mission by early December.General Libby says all Maine soldiers should be back by the beginning of next year. However, Libby says the Maine National Guard will continue to remain on standby for operational needs in Iraq and Afghanistan.
