High Speed Chase Ends in Arrest 

A 25 year old Bucksport man was arrested early Monday morning in Belfast following a car chase and search on foot.Matthew Williams was arrested on numerous charges including eluding an officer, failure to stop, criminal speeding, and aggravated operating after revocation.Williams was wanted on warrants out of Penobscot County and he was thought to be driving on Route Three, he was spotted near Belmont and pulled over by Waldo County Sheriffs near the town line with Belfast.Williams pulled to the side of the road and then sped away, with the Deputy in pursuit. A Belfast officer joined the chase but both slowed down as they approached the town of Belfast.Williams crashed his vehicle into a pair of us postal vehicles in the parking lot and left on foot.A Maine State Police Trooper with a K-9 tried to track Williams.He was found and arrested at a store on the east side of Belfast at 2:30am .Williams has 8 priors and 11 suspensions on his record.
