Yard Sale to Benefit Local Food Pantry

Folks could pick through clothes, electronics, toys and plenty more at a yard sale in Brewer Saturday. The Hermon Food Pantry was hosting the sale in hopes to move them closer to their goal of building a new headquarters.Folks paid 5-dollars to get in and that covered all they could carry out in their arms. The Neighbors Supporting Neighbors Food Pantry feeds more than 4-hundred people in Hermon, Carmel, Levant, Etna and Dixmont.Right now, they operate out of a temporary site, the Penobscot Snowmobile Club, with food stored elsewhere. The town of Hermon recently donated land on the Billings Road for a new facility to house a food pantry, soup kitchen and three bedroom emergency shelter.Organizers say they are pleased with the turn-out for the sale.” It was wonderful. People were excited. They would load up their cars and go back and forth. Every time they came in it was 5-dollars more. They’d load their cars and then come back with an empty carload so they could fill it again.”They were able to raise close to 1-thousand dollars Saturday. They need about 1-hundred-thousand dollars to complete the project.A building account has been set up at the Camden National Bank in Hermon for anyone interested in making a donation.
