Oakland Woman Named 2011 Teacher of the Year

(AP) – An elementary school teacher from Oakland has been named the 2011 Maine Teacher of the Year. Shelly Moody was bestowed the honor Friday during a surprise ceremony at Williams Elementary School, where she teaches third- and fourth-graders. Department of Education Commissioner Angela Faherty said Moody’s commitment to children, her enthusiasm and her professionalism are contagious. Moody will go on to compete in the selection process for the national teacher of the year award, which will be announced in April at the White House.
