Poverty Report Presented in Bangor 

The Maine Community Action Association has released a report documenting the state of poverty in Maine.The MCAA worked with the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center of the University of Maine to come up with the findings in this report.It was presented at the Penquis Office in Bangor Thursday.Dr. Ann Acheson wrote the report, she says the state of Maine as a whole has a slightly lower poverty rate than the country, but when you break the state down into counties, it’s a much different story.”If you actually drill down to the county level there are many counties in the state with a much higher poverty rates and much higher unemployment rates,” she said.During the ten years the MCAA has worked with Margaret Chase, Maine has witnessed two recessions and a period of economic expansion.To see the full report, you can log onto Penquis’ website at
