Cianbro has landed a new project that could put more than 100 people to work at its Brewer facility. Cianbro says it will be making more than 20 steel structures for international mining company Vale, which is based in Brazil. That company will install the structures in a nickel processing plant in Canada. Cianbro says steel for the structures will be fabricated at Cianbro’s Pittsfield facility.Cianbro CEO Peter Vigue says competition for the contract was fierce, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. “We prevailed,” said Vigue. “And it’s certainly reflective of our confidence in our people and the community in which we’re located, the state of Maine and it’s just a wonderful opportunity. A wonderful day and we believe that this is the beginning of much more to come.”Cianbro has already begun designing the structures. Work on the modules should start in the fall. The construction is scheduled for completion by 2012.
