Homeless Conference Raises Awareness in Rockland 

The Knox and Waldo County Homeless Coalition hosted a conference Wednesday to address homelessness in Maine.Several agencies that provide help to the homeless were at the event at the Midcoast School of Technology in Rockland.Author Richard Lemieux was a keynote speaker at the event.He was homeless for two years and wrote a book about his experience.He now tours the nation raising awareness about homelessness.”The face of homelessness is changing, what we used to think of an old man with a brown bag and a bottle is now a child sleeping in the back of a car with their mother sleeping in the front seat,” he said.Last year, there were 7,100 people in homeless shelters throughout the state of maine.One thousand of them were children under the age of 18.
