Washington County Considers Budget Shortfall

Washington County leaders are trying to figure out how to cover a shortfall of at least $600,000 in next year’s county budget. Members of the budget committee met today to talk about the nearly $5-and-a-half-million plan. County manager Betsy Fitzgerald says the proposed budget increases spending by about $200,000, while also bringing in $400,000 less from the state. Fitzgerald the committee plans to review the budget, line by line, and possibly decide on cuts, at its next meeting in October.The budget’s scheduled for final review in December.
