U.S. Border Patrol agents wrapped up a five-day checkpoint in Old Town, with four immigration arrests and 45 seizures of drugs and weapons, including 101 pounds of marijuana. Border patrol agents set up the checkpoint, which ended yesterday, in the south-bound lane of I-95.Assistant Chief Patrol Agent Dave Astle says the last time they conducted a check like this in the Old Town area was two years ago. Astle says the effort’s designed to catch people in the country illegally, but can also net other criminal activity. We’re told agents arrested two people on Thursday, accused of having 101 pounds of pot hidden in a pickup truck. 46-year-old Louis Bailey of Wells and 43-year-old Roland Daggett of Portsmouth, New Hampshire are being held without bail. They’re due in federal court in Bangor tomorrow.
