Murder Trial Underway 

A trial is underway in Augusta for a 44 year old man accused of killing his 80-year-old mother in the home they shared in Monmouth.Adrienne Bennett is in Augusta and joins us over the phone with the latest.Kenneth McDonald’s murder trial is underway Monday in Kennebec County Superior Court in Augusta. Jurors were selected last week.Prosecutors say McDonald killed his mother, Janice McDonald, on Aug. 24, 2009. Leane Zainea, Assist. Attorney General- “I don’t think there is going to be really any kind of controversy that Kenneth McDonald caused the death of Janice McDonald.”James Billings, Defense Attorney- “The reason Kenneth McDonald wants a trial is because he contends the evidence will show when he acted last august he did so out of extreme fear or extreme anger or a combination of the two because he was provoked.”The Medical Examiner said she died of multiple sharpforce and blunt trauma.According to court documents, police found knives in the home that appeared to be covered with blood.
