One Injured in Plane Crash

A Damariscotta man walked away with a broken arm and other minor injuries after crashing his plane in South Thomaston Sunday afternoon.Police say 75-year-old William Hamilton took off from the Owls Head Airport just after 2 o’clock, but lost power in his 1947 Cessna almost immediately. He was only about 50 feet off the ground, and still over the runway, but couldn’t climb any more.He tried to turn back and to get out of the way of any other aircraft that might have been trying to land or take off, but his wing clipped a tree and he crashed nose first into the ground not far from the runway. He was able to get out of the plane, and just moments later, it burst into flames. The plane was destroyed. The FAA will head to the scene Monday to investigate.
