A glimmer of hope has surfaced for the Y.W.C.A. of Central Maine. 

Late last week, board members announced that financial problems were forcing the Lewiston facility to close for good.But a press conference is scheduled for Monday afternoon…with a board member saying “There’s a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel.”The Y.W.C.A. runs a swimming pool and facility on East Avenue in Lewiston.In a letter distributed to its 1,000 members Thursday, August 19th, the Y.W.C.A. said the struggling economy, the high cost of operating its building and a drop in financial support were too much to overcome.The organization has been in existence for 130 years.Its swimming pool closed on Friday, and there were plans to shut down the rest of the facility on September 3rd. More than 30 people work for the Central Maine Y.W.C.A.
