Down East Sails Up Town 

A celebration of culture is taking place in Bangor and other communities in Maine.The art exhibit, Down East Sails Up Town, kicked off this weekend.Painting, sculpture and photography from 300 artists from all over the world is on display in 10 locations, including the Bangor Library, Bangor City Hall and ByDesign on Harlow Street.Proceeds from the event go to three childrens art programs including one at the Maine Discovery Museum.Organizers say art is powerful because everyone can relate to it. ” We all will see something it’ll grab our imagination and just capture and somehow say who we are let alone what it is,” said Rod Rodrigues, exhibit coordinator.The exhibit, which asked artists to depict what down east Maine means to them, runs through October 2nd.
