(AP) – The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety hasreceived a half million-dollar federal grant that will be used onseveral data-related projects. Highway Safety Director Lauren Stewart said the money will fundimprovements to Maine’s crash reporting system and an electronicprogram to monitor and tabulate motor vehicle violations andsummonses. Another project will collect data from ambulance callsin Maine. The funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation is acontinuation of grants awarded to Maine to update the reports thatmonitor and analyze motor vehicle crashes. Several new features have been added to the crash reports filledout by Maine police officers, including more specifics on whatcaused the crash.
