Social Security Turns 75 

The social security program turned 75-years-old Thursday.Senior citizens, religious leaders, and others gathered in Orrington to celebrate the anniversary of the anti-poverty program.Advocates that gathered at the Orrington congregational church are hailing the social security program a smashing success.”In the early 30’s, the poverty rate among seniors had exceeded 50%. Today, because of social security, 46% of all seniors have been raised out of poverty.”The folks in Orrington were not alone. There were similar celebrations nationwide.
