Organizers of the American Folk Festival are trying to encourage festival goers to give a little more to the bucket brigade this year. They’re suggesting each person attending the festival donate $10 per day or $20 per family.Organizers say this is only a suggestion and it’s not a mandatory admission price. Volunteers will be set up at the Railroad Stage entrance with new super buckets to help remind people to donate to the festival. They’ll also have the usual Bucket Brigade volunteers walking around the festival collecting donations. They’re hoping to educate people on what the true cost of the festival is. “What is the value of 5 stages, 16 performing groups, 3 days on this amazing waterfront and if people would consider giving a suggested donation of $10 a day or $20 a family,” says festival director Heather McCarthy. “If we got that message across to everybody who comes to the festival we would be well on our way to a very solid, very sustainable event.”The Folk Festival begins Friday August 27th and runs through the weekend.
