Chasse Takes the Stand in his Trial 

Maine State Prison inmate Michael Chasse took the stand Wednesday in his trial in Rockland.He’s accused of kidnapping and assault at the prison and is representing himself.Prosecutors say Chasse held a prison worker and an inmate hostage for seven hours at the prison in June of 2008.Chasse has pleaded not guilty.On the stand Wednesday, Chasse said he suffered from low self-esteem as a young adult and because of that, he acted out in a criminal way.He said he started to suffer from an identity crisis and would hear voices.He also testified he had an alcohol and drug abuse problem and when he was moved to the Maine State Prison, he felt honored.Chasse will continue to testify Thursday.
