Horses Roughed Up on Interstate 95

Two work horses headed to a pulling contest at a Maine fair are OK after falling from a moving trailer on Interstate 95 in Old Town. It’s unclear how the horses came out of the trailer at around6:30 Wednesday morning, but a passer-by found one walking in a ditch, the other was on the highway. Maine State Police Trooper Josh D’Angelo said the horses had cuts and what he called “road rash,” but their injuries were not life-threatening. Greg Smith of Houlton says he saw the trailer gate come open. He then helped catch the horses. The owners, whose names were not released, didn’t know the horses had fallen out.
