Performing arts is center stage at the Collins Center for the Arts in Orono through Friday. The Maine Arts Commission is hosting the three-day performing arts conference. The goal is to improve performing arts and cultutral exchanges between Maine and Canada. Artists from throughout Canada and New England are performing live. And there are panel discussions as well focusing on key issues facing arts programs. Kerstin Gilg is one of the organizers of the conference. “The conference is the first step in a larger plan for our organization,” he says.” “We are basically working on broadening the arts for a wider audience I guess is our core mission. So the end of this conference is going to be a first step in making these collective cultural trade routes between New England and Atlantic Canada.”The conference runs through Friday.
