One Injured in Searsport Crash 

A Searsport man is in critical condition after a car accident in Searsport Sunday evening.According to Trooper Lucus Cunningham with the Maine State Police, 20-year-old Michael Nugent, of Searsport, was driving a 2008 Honda Civic on Mortland Road, which is about a quarter of a mile north of Searsport High School, when he went off the road and struck a large tree. “The impact actually tore the car into two pieces, leaving the engine block in the woods, and the rest of the car about 15 feet further down in a ditch,” said Trooper Lucus Cunningham, with the Maine State Police.Nugent was transported to Waldo County General Hospital and then Lifeflighted to Eastern Maine Medical Center.Searsport fire and police departments as well as state police responded to the crash.Mortland Road was shut down for about a half an hour.Police are investigating what caused the crash. Cunningham says right now it looks like high speed was a factor.
