Chunk of Bridge Between Maine and New Hampshire Barely Misses Tug Boat

A chunk of the Memorial Bridge between Maine and New Hampshire missed hitting a tugboat cruise when it splashed into the Piscataqua River earlier this week. But even that incident doesn’t mean the bridge will get fixed any faster. Captain Bob Hassold says a large piece of rusty metal fell off the bridge on monday, about 50 feet from his boat.Maine and New Hampshire officials insist the bridge betweenKittery and Portsmouth is safe, even though New Hampshire wants toreplace it as soon as possible. No decision will be made until after both states receive a consultant’s report two weeks from now.
