The Fields Pond Audubon Center in Holden is getting a makeover this weekend, but not without the help of the community. The outside of the nature center is starting to show some wear and the staff says there’s not a lot of money in the budget to fix it up. So Home Depot in Bangor decided to donate all the materials needed to paint and stain the building. Volunteers, though, need to come up with the labor. So far about a dozen people say they’ll help with the weekend project. Paul Corcoran, assistant manager at Home Depot, says organizers would love to see another dozen volunteers join in. “With the economic times we thought we could step in and help lessen the burden by helping paint this building this weekend. We’re going to be here Saturday and Sunday from 8 to 4. There’ll be food both days, water, if they just want to come for 2 to 4 hours, they’re more than welcome. Come with some old clothes and we’ll put you to work.”Organizer say it’s a good idea to bring sunscreen, too. And they says kids are welcome to come and enjoy the inside of the center while the adults work on the outside. Anyone who’d like to help can just show up. If you need some more information, you can call the center at 989-2591.
