Car Crashes, Bursts into Flames on Route 9

A section of Route 9 in Osborn was reduced to one lane Thursday morning while crews cleaned up an accident.According to Chief Allan Shorey of the Osborn Fire Department, a state worker was driving a Department of Transportation vehicle when he hydroplaned, lost control, and rolled over into a wooded area around 6:30 Thursday morning. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle right before it burst into flames.Mutual aid was called in from Mariahville.”It was so hot, it was just fully involved when we got here. We just needed more water than what we had available to us. That’s why we called Mariahville for extra man power and water,” said Chief Allan Shorey of the Osborn Fire Department. The driver had a small injury on his elbow. He was transported to a hospital by his wife.Chief Shorey says the recent rains we’ve had helped keep the fire contained. He says if the wooded area had been dry, the car fire could have caused a much bigger blaze.
