Victims Identified in Portland Plane Crash 

Officials say two men have diedin a small plane crash near the Portland International Jetport inMaine. The victims have been identified as 42-year-old pilot MarkHaskell of Brunswick and 66-year-old Thomas Casagrande of Portland.Portland city spokesman Nicole Clegg said the noncommercialplane went down about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, a short distance from therunway of the airport and a few blocks from the busy Maine Mall inSouth Portland. Officials did not identify the victims of the crash. They saidthey were investigating the cause. Officials described the plane as a YAK-52, a Russian-made planeintroduced in the 1970s for aeronautic training. The plane crashed on Western Avenue, a normally busy road linedwith strip malls, retail outlets and convenience stores. No otherinjuries were reported. Witnesses said shortly after taking off, the plane made a sharpturn and began its descent.
