Public’s Help Needed to Find Sex Offender Who Skipped Jail

State police are turning to the public to help find a convicted sex offender from Vassalboro who didn’t show up at jail. 60-year-old William Stein was supposed to start serving a 3-and-a-half year prison sentence on June 11th. He was scheduled to report to the Kennebec County Jail but never showed. Stein pleaded guilty last month to one count of gross sexual assault and four counts of unlawful sexual contact with a young child. Stein is 6-feet, 1-inch tall, weighs 270 pounds, has hazel eyes and brown thinning hair with a goatee and moustache. His was last known to be living on Oxford Street in the China Lake mobile home Park in Vassalboro. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call State Police in Augusta at 624-7076 or 911 on a cell phone.
