Same Sex Marriage Debate Heats up Again

(AP) – The National Organization for Marriage has kicked off its “One Man, One Woman” bus tour in Maine, where residents last year rejected a law that would have allowed same-sex couples to wed. About 100 supporters of traditional marriage showed up at Wednesday’s rally in Augusta. NOM President Brian Brown said it’s important to start the 19-state tour in a place where people “voted to protect marriage.” Meanwhile, about 80 supporters of gay marriage showed up at a press conference at the nearby State House on Wednesday to show they’re continuing their efforts to educate and press for same-sex marriage. NOM donated nearly $2 million to Stand for Marriage Maine, the political group that led the fight to repeal the gay marriage law. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
