Orono Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested 

Police have arrested a bus driver from Massachusetts accused of robbing a bank in Orono – a man who may be connected to a string of bank robberies throughout New England. 47-year-old Robert Ferguson of Lowell was arrested at a Bangor motel early Wednesday morning, after police received a tip from a motel employee. He’s charged with robbing the Bangor Savings Bank Tuesday afternoon.Court documents say people inside the bank told police Ferguson came in, cut in line, and told employees if they did anything wrong, he’d start shooting.He demanded three teller drawers full of money, which he received, then he left on foot.After police released a surveillance photo last night, an employee at the Days Inn on Odlin Road in Bangor called in, saying they recognized him as a regular guest, a Greyhound bus driver.Court documents say police recovered the money inside an electrical panel on his bus, which was parked outside the hotel.Ferguson made his first appearance in a federal courtroom Wednesday afternoon, but didn’t say much.Bank officials tell TV5 Ferguson is believed to be the same man dubbed by authorities as the “burly bandit,” reportedly responsible for a total of ten bank robberies throughout New England since April.Ferguson fits a similar description of the suspect in those robberies, but authorities say they can’t say for sure yet if he is connected to them.His next court date is planned for be Monday.
