Bangor Fifth Grade Teacher to Sing at Fenway Park

In honor of Red Sox fans from Maine, this Sunday, July 18th is Maine Day at Fenway Park. The Red Sox have set aside tickets exclusively for Mainers and during the seventh inning stretch, “God Bless America” will be sung by Joe Bennett. A lifelong Red Sox fan and a fifth grade teacher from Bangor. I caught up with him at Mansfield Stadium as he practiced for his big moment.God bless America, land that I love…There’s a part of me that’s trying not to think too much about it because it does get a little bit, the butterflies start going, but it’s the thrill of a lifetime. This thrill of a lifetime would not be here without Joe Bennett’s fifth grade students. His class at Fairmount School sent a letter to the Red Sox saying Mr. Bennett should sing at a Red Sox game. That got the ball rolling. How could you not, in all seriousness, not be touched a little bit by that, they took it upon themselves to write a letter and I’m going to hound them from now on until the end of their academic careers for doing it but I love them for doing it really, great great kids. For Joe Bennett, it’s not only an honor to sing at Fenway Park, its a chance to show off the state of Maine to Red Sox Nation.I tell ya, I’m proud to be from Maine and I’m just looking forward to doing the state proud I guess. My home sweet home…
