Ryan Gay had a one shot lead going into todays final round of the Maine Amateur Golf Tournament. But the event had two lead changes late in the round before it was decided. Tim Throckmorton reports from Bar Harbor. With fast greens and warm and dry conditions it came down to putting. With four holes to play three were in contention and two were tied for the lead. Jason Gall from Augusta on the 15th hole jumped in front of Ryan Gay when he knocked in a nice birdie putt. They both had pars on the 16th, but number 17 turned the tide the other way.Gall this time needed four shots from the fringe and when it was done he had double bogied the hole. The lead changed hands when gay knocked in his par putt. A one shot lead going into the final hole.Gall from the rough hit it to six feet…. But his attempt to send it into sudden death lipped out. Moments later gay finished his round of 72 by tapping in for the win. It was a one shot win over Gall and Ricky Jones….And the 2nd Maine Amateur title for Ryan Gay.Something I definitely wanted to win this summer. Think about it in school. Practice for it. It was great…had a lot of fun.Ryan thanked his grandfather for starting him playing golf when he was younger. Tim Throckmorton, WABI TV 5 Sports.
