(AP) – The Maine medical examiner’s office says an autopsy is scheduled for an armed Marine Corps veteran who was shot by police on the property of a Veterans Affairs hospital in Augusta. It’s unclear if the results of the autopsy on the body of37-year-old James Popkowski of Medway will be released Friday. The attorney general’s office says Popkowski of Medway waskilled Thursday in a confrontation with a federal officer and twogame wardens Thursday morning, near the entrance to VA MedicalCenter at Togus. A family friend says a rare form of cancer cut short Popkowski’smilitary career. A hospital spokesman says Popkowski had receivedtreatment but wouldn’t provide details. Popkowski was killed after police received reports of gunfirenear the VA.
