There’s a good, old fashioned community get-together going on in East Millinocket. It’s called Summerfest. The event started in 2007 in conjunction with the town’s 100th anniversary. It’s grown each year.”There’s more people, so we try to have more for people to do and more for people to look at,” said Kelly Willigar, Chair of Summerfest. The celebration is a way for folks to reconnect with family, friends, and neighbors.”We’ve got seven class reunions coming home this year. A 10th, 20th, 25th, 30th, 40th, and 45th,” said Willigar.”Over the summer, sometimes you don’t see people because they’re camping or something, but this is a time to get everyone together and have such a great time,” added 12-year-old Olivia Marston. Vendors have lots on display, including furniture, rugs, even games for the kids… and there’s so much more. “We’ve got pony rides, adventure climbing which has a lot of blow up stuff, bungee jumping, obstacle courses and a 45 foot tiger slide,” said Willigar.”It’s really fun because all the kids are running around and there’s all sorts of things to do,” added Marston.Organizers are expecting thousands of folks from communities near and far this year. They say they hope Summerfest is a tradition that continues for generations to come. The event runs through Sunday.
