Heat Wave Hits Maine

Maine health officials have issued an advisory urging residents to stay cool, drink plenty of liquids and take it easy as extreme heat continues to grip the region. The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday that the single most-important strategy to prevent heat illness is to get susceptible people into air-conditioned spaces. The National Weather Service said interior sections of Maine were expected to reach the low to mid-90s Wednesday, although cooler temperatures were expected along the coast. Temperatures on Tuesday hit 99 degrees in Sanford, 95 degrees in Portland and 94 degrees in Augusta. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
