Meals on Wheels

One Central Maine organization sent out the message, during this patriotic holiday that our senior citizens are Americans who deserve freedom from hunger. The folks from Spectrum Generations in Waterville are encouraging people to donate to Meals on Wheels. They’ve been providing the service for 40 years.A record number of seniors, shut-ins and disabled adults are now relying on the program for five nutritious meals each week.” For many people this will be the only company that they see all week,” said Dot Freeman, Director of Development for Spectrum Generations. ” So we’re delivering a highly nutritious meal but in addition to that maybe as important is the handshake and the visitor and the hug that they come to expect and we all need.”This year the volunteers for Meals on Wheels will make deliveries to about 15-hundred people in 130 central Maine communities. To make a donation, send it to Spectrum Generations, PO Box 2589, Augusta 04338-2589.
