Cannon Firing at Fort Knox

To kick off the holiday weekend, some folks decided to get transported back to the 1800’s, and they had a blast while doing so.The Friends of Fort Knox sponsored a Civil War cannon firing, featuring the 6th Maine Battery Civil War Reenactors. The cannon is a full-scale replica of a parrot cannon used extensively during the Civil War.It produces extremely loud blasts, but organizers say folks love the experience.”You can hear that cannon for miles, so you can imagine what a battlefield in the Civil War would have been like with 60 cannons. It must have been a thunderous experience,” said Leon Seymour, Executive Director of Friends of Fort Knox.A doctor was also on hand for a medical demonstration, acting as a doctor in the Civil War, complete with models of Civil War era equipment.
