Central Maine Meals on Wheels Needs Help to Keep Rolling

As we celebrate a patriotic holiday this week-end, one central Maine organization is sending out the message that Senior Citizens are Americans who deserve freedom from hunger. The folks from Spectrum Generations in Waterville are encouraging people to donate to Meals on Wheels. They’ve been providing the service for 40 years. They say now a record number of seniors, shut-ins and disabled adults are relying on the program for five nutritious meals each week.Plus, they get to enjoy some friendly conversation with the folks who deliver them. Dot Freeman of Spectrum Generations says “For many people this will be the only company that they see all week. So we’re delivering a highly nutritious meal but in addition to that maybe as importantis the handshake and the visitor and the hug that they come to expect and we all need.”This year the volunteers for Meals on Wheels will make deliveries to about 1500 Mainers living in 130 towns in Central Maine. To make a donation, send it to:Spectrum GenerationsPO Box 2589Augusta, Maine 04338-2589.
