The residents of Westgate Manor put on their red, white and blue, the boy scouts and girl scouts stood at attention, and the band played some patriotic tunes. It was all for an early 4th of July celebration.”We just want to show our patriotic side. And the residents really enjoy just coming out and meeting with their families and just having a good afternoon in the sun and the fun,” said Kirby Whitney, Executive Director of Westgate Manor.”Oh it’s perfect, you couldn’t have it any better. It’s just beautiful,” added Wanda Szal, a resident.”it means a lot to our residents and to our staff to have such a gathering and to have the community so much involved.”Whitney says, “A lot of them are just, big smiles and really enjoying the children and the music and having a wonderful time. So we really enjoy it.””I thought it was fantastic,” says Szal.Westgate Manor has been putting on this event for several years. Organizers say a lot goes into setting up and preparing the food, but this celebration is definitely worth the effort.”Just to see the smiles on the residents’ faces, that is worth all the work we put into this… To me the residents are feeling safe and feeling love and that’s really what we’re doing here,” adds Whitney.
