John Bapst Launches Boarding Program

John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor is hoping to welcome students from around the world. They’re launching a boarding program and hope to welcome their first students in the fall of 2011.They did some research on private schools in New England that offer dorms for students. Head of School, Mel MacKay says even though his school already offers quality education those schools were better off thanks to the boarding program. He says there are many benefits. “We certainly would benefit from the global perspective of kids from overseas from Europe and Asia and other parts of the world and from potentially students from other parts of the state or other parts of this country in terms of diversity.”They are now looking at properties in the area for their dorms. The first year, MacKay says there will be no more than 42 students in the boarding program.John Bapst now has close to 450 high school students.
